As someone who doesn't have much experience debating, MYDC has been incredibly helpful in helping me develop my skills through the incredibly diverse activities we do each week.

During this week's meeting (May 3rd), MYDC had a guest speaker come in—Maria from the United Nations Association of Australia. Maria was great and taught us about 17 United Nations' SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Using the 17 SDGs, she talked discussed the importance of protecting the planet through efficient and healthier practices, highlighting why each goal was necessary.

One topic which stuck with me was how a significant amount of countries use large aircrafts to transport large amounts of plastic bottles, when a solution of filters costing a significantly lower amount can be used. Not only does this lead to more affordable water pricing for the consumers, but it also reduces plastic usage, contributing to a healthier planet.

As a result of the 17 SDGs, many projects have been created focusing on gender equality, reforestation, and improved education, to name a few. This further demonstrated how effectively the goals have been implemented.
